Efficient Green Secure Supply Chains

Supporting the development of European EcoHubs woCust
Efficient and secure supply chains require global solutions across multiple transport modes, involving numerous industrial and service sectors and authorities.

Development programmes in Asia, EU, and US reflect different priorities and capability maturity levels as well as different national strategies on trade. However security and environmental performance of transport and logistics is a common priority.
From a business perspective Supply Chain strategies favoring globalization and cost-minimization must be balanced with deployment of risk mitigation strategies against security threats and economic instability / market volatility. Permanent volatility has a larger impact on supply chains compared to other sectors as each node of transport and logistics network is affected in different way by currency and commodity price fluctuations and regulation changes.

On the other hand institutional capabilities need to be developed to facilitate trade whilst promoting improved security. Increasing Supply Chain resilience is therefore paramount and requires monitoring of external threats (market, political, natural hazards) and operational uncertainties, as well as a deeper international awareness, for the potential occurrence of high impact events.

The harmonisation and orchestration
of a cooperative approach to Efficient Secure Global Supply Chains offers venues for innovation and growth leading to significant advantages to both businesses and authorities.

Whilst the need for dynamic supply chains aimed at increased resilience is widely accepted, often solutions proposed are shifting emphasis from efficiency to risk management and technology solutions for improving supply chain visibility.

INLECOM is technical coordinator of a number of key projects in this area including SUPPORT, Contain, Safepost and Eurosky. We have utilised knowledge gained to develop a methodology for designing and operating Efficient Green and Secure Supply Chains. The differentiating features of our approach is that it is weaving together a e-Freight, eMaritime and importantly trade and transport Single Window developments.
