Access Points

Access Points (AP) denotes communication facilities exposing data to external parties based on agreed profiles including message standards and security and privacy mechanisms as stored in public or community directories.

In essence, the AP approach resembles a mail service communication: the APs are similar to the Internet mail servers. The AP service is provided by an Access Point provider. AP providers typically connect to their customers through their existing networks and use the AP to exchange documents with other AP providers.

The approach has been established in many domains, particularly related to e-procurement, It is part of EU policy for better Europe-wide standards to enhance interoperability and ensure that digital applications and devices work across borders.

Access points can be combined with specific connectors to information sources to support automated decision making. Linked data

Further combining access points can be extended to services and can be used to link different communities forming Ecosystems
